As you may have seen there is a new thriving app in the social media industry, known as Tik Tok. It has achieved the title of the topmost downloaded app in Apple’s iOS App store for 2019, with more than 33 million downloads, and exceeding the number of users on other entertainment apps such as Snapchat, Facebook, Instagram, and youtube. So, What exactly is TikTok… Well, TikTok is a social media platform for sharing user-generated content. On this platform, users can create and upload their own videos where they are dancing to popular tunes, lip-syncing songs, or even sharing their own content like vlogs.

Essentially, TikTok functions the same as Youtube by regularly paying content creators. Many creators have also gained popularity and fame from this platform like Charli D’amelio, Dixie D’amelio, Addison Rae, Amelie Zilber, and many more. Just last year, Charli D’amelio was a normal 16-year-old girl from Norwalk, Connecticut. Now she is an influencer that has over 93.3 million followers and a jaw-dropping 7.1 billion likes, which will definitely exponentially grow. Charli is also sponsored by many well-known brands like Hollister, Morphe Cosmetics, Sabra Hummus, and her very own brand as well. She also holds an astonishing net worth of 4 million USD. These verified users such as Charli not only share dance content, but they also spread awareness through their immense platforms.

Another example of an influencer is Amelie Zilber. She is a political activist who believes her platform was made to bring light to issues that need to be discussed. Not only does she create posts about these issues, but she also writes a weekly newsletter known as “Two minute times”.Through her newsletters, she informs others about multiple political issues going on in the world such as the BLM movement, COVID-19, Muslims being held in concentration camps, and many more.

This platform not only helps spread awareness but also helps many in need. I, myself have come across many videos of users using their platform to gather funds that they contribute to those with financial constraints or generally those in need. One user provided housing and food to refugees who were crossing the Honduras border. As you can see TikTok isn’t just a platform for teens, but a worldwide community dedicated to the good of the people.
